THE COOKS REPORT
July 2009
Football Bingo
The club`s football bingo competition
is back again for the 2009/10 season. Every team in the Premiership
and football league along with teams from Spain, Italy, Germany and
Scotland are paired by virtue of their finishing positions in the
previous seasons league. So Manchester Utd are paired with Torquay
Utd, Liverpool with Burton Albion and so on.
Each entrant get a bingo card with 15
numbers on and everytime your two nominated sides score a league goal
if it corresponds with a number on your card then you cross it off.
Each entry costs £ 10, but the first
prize is £ 250, along with many other prizes. There are only 55
entries available and the draw will be made at our Presidents Day on
August 1 st. For more information on this competition please contact
either Roy Quennell
r.quennell@ntlworld.com or Phil Whiteman at
Philip.whiteman@virgin.net and they will send you full details of
this addictive competition or reserve you an entry should you wish to
play.
Presidents Day
The club`s annual Presidents Day will
take place at Cogenhoe United Football Club on Saturday August 1 st .
On that day our first team will host Wellingborough Town III and
during the afternoon our President Mr Terry Tarpley will be present
and would be only too pleased to see our Vice Presidents and Sponsors
join him for a drink. From 8 pm we move up to the football club for a
BBQ. All of the food will be provided by the players of the club as a
way of saying thank you to our Vice Presidents and Sponsors for all
there generous support of our club over the past year. The players
will also be cooking the food.
We will also be making a donation to
our nominated charity which this year is the Jennifer Trust. Details
on the Jennifer Trust can be obtained by going to our website
www.cogenhoecc.co.uk and clicking on the link on our home page.
Tim
Moulds Memorial Match
On Tuesday 30 th June the club played
our annual fixture against Holcot for the Tim Moulds Trophy. Tim was a
generous supporter of our club and a great friend of Cogenhoe legend
Albert Irons. Following Tim`s passing we decided to play a fixture
every year in his memory a 20 overs per side game between Cogenhoe and
Holcot. The first game in 2007 was won by Holcot with Cogenhoe
leveling the series in 2008.
Batting first Coigenhoe set an
imposing 166 with Paul Browning,Jason Kruger, Piron James and Gareth
Goddard all having to retire having reached 25.
Charlie Bryant and village youngster
Ashley Davis then opened up with some tight bowling as the hosts never
got close to the Cogenhoe total as they ended their innings on 103-7.
The game was played at the beautiful
Holcot ground and our thanks as ever go to Albert for his organisation
and the owners of Holcot.
Sportsframe Twenty/20
The club`s annual 20/20 adventure
again saw us lose out to opponents from the Premier League.
All started well with a trip to Mears
Ashby where the hosts scored 131-5 in their 20 overs with Dan
McLaughlin taking 2-15. Skipper Gareth Goddard 60 not out and Dan 41
led from the front with an opening stand of 77 as Cogenhoe eased to a
6 wicket win in the 17 th over.
Our reward was a visit from
premiership side Brixworth on July 1 st. There was much anticipation
that messers Devon Malcolm, Jason Gillespie and Darren Gough all of
whom are signed on to play for Brixworth may turn up at Compton Park
but sadly they did not. A healthy crowd did turn up though to see the
Cooks get off to a decent start with Dan 20, Ryan Knight 17 and
Gareth 13 keeping the scoreboard moving. But a mini collapse as guys
went for runs saw Cogenhoe eventually all out for 101 with Mark Bird
blasting 21 at the end to give the Cooks a fighting chance. Jason
Kruger snapped up 2 quick wickets to have Brixworth 17-2 but their
undoubted class shone through and there were no more hiccups as
Brixworth completed an eight wicket win in the 15 th over.
Jason Roberts
Congratulations to Jason Roberts who
on July 4 th away at Kettering Town III scored a club league record of
163. His innings included 7 sixes and 27 fours and was only his third
innings of season after he broke a finger back in May.
Below are the ten highest league
scores made by Cogenhoe players
